Is journalism right for me??? what should i consider by Tony Rogers

Hey its been a while since we’ve promoted anything here on CutThroatLines BUT in the past  few weeks it has been quite hectic, lucky for us things has cooled down  now and we can  get cracking on again on what we do here. Which is PROMOTING.

Today we’re going to be promoting the tips and ways on becoming a journalist. Now although we mainly focus on music and filming we thought that journalism has a very important role in the media industry, which is why thanks to Tony Rogers he has his own sites where he shares some of his past experience as well as advice for those who wish to enter this field. AA040013

Like many other people who go on to have a career in journalism, author of ‘News writing on Deadline’ Tony Rogers started his journalistic stint writing film reviews for his school newspaper, eventually gaining more than 25 years experience in the industry as a reporter, editor and journalism professor.

Some of his blogs he’s written are ”how to prepare for a journalism career”, ”choose the journalism school that’s right for you”, Why to get a journalism internship”, ”finding stories to cover” and many more.

Check out his expert advice form and if your still not sure check out his main website.

Hope this helps guys till next time……. p.s we’d like to thank Yasmin Jensen for helping us write this blog and we hope she will continue to keep writing for us 🙂

7 unrealistic expectations of film industry jobs by Evan Luzi

Hey guys,

Another interesting blog site I found the other day by a man called Evan Luzi. He is currently posting his own views and personal experience on a site called theblackandblue.com ( I will add the link). His posts may interest for those who are wanting to get into the filming industry particularly the camera assistance side.

The particular blog I’m posting is the ”7 unrealistic expectations of the film industry jobs”, he does have more similar types of forms on his site but I thought this one in particular was very honest and realistic and can help you guys to understand that somethings are not as easy as they look or seem BUT you shouldn’t get put off by it and give up. Instead by realizing the ups and down falls of the industry it can help you to understand more about it and be prepared just in case.

ABOUT EVEN LUZI Slate-600x362

Quick summary about Evan Luzi of course if you want to find out more I will add the link below. Luzi is the founder of The Black and Blue which is basically a site which provides tips and advice on being a camera assistance. Evan Luzi himself has been working in the camera  assistance industry for a long time. So for those wishing to know the ropes of this sector I’d recommend reading his stuff :D.

He has also written other topics such as ” 20 rules you should never break on set”, ” how to use a camera you never used before” and advice on freelancing.

You can connect with him on Twitter (@evanluzi) or on Google Plus (+Evan Luzi).

Is the music industry right for me?? From Heather McDonald

Hey guys.

I found this interesting blog post by a woman called Heather McDonald ( no I’m not talking about the actress lol )  who has written blogs and shares her experience within the music industry. For those who are wondering Heather McDonald has been working within the music industry since her teenage years. She has worked in many different aspects of the industry such as promotion, music tours, independent record labels etc. She has many many years of experience so it would be highly recommended to take notes!!!

On her blog sites she give many detailed tips and advice about working in the industry as well as giving pros and cons for each job sector. From what i have been reading so far they are a lot of key information which even i didn’t know or realize how important they were. She also talks about ”how to guide’‘ when starting a band, record, booking etc as well as advice on contracts and copyrights, music career guides and industry jobs. images (2)

I think this blog is well worth checking out especially for those who wish to break it into the industry and have a big passion for music itself. There is also a FAQ section and you can also email her to if you have any other questions you would like to know musicians@aboutguide.com

Hey guys

Its from a man called Danny Indio / Danny Jiminian and well he’s basically a  producer, director, writer, editor and consultant. He lives in New York City. He enjoys working on offbeat projects and also collaborations with filmmakers you can also email him here :  DJ@ filmstrategy. comimages (1)

Do you need a degree to work in the filming industry????

Hey guys

So the other day I stumbled across a blog  i randomly found on twitter about working within the filming industry. The blog site is called ”Needle girl, haystack world”. The blog is written by a young female called Laryssa, who loves traveling and a working freelance in the filming industry. Her main blog posts focuses on traveling and filming.download (4)

Her travel blogs are based on her experiences, observations, points of views as well as give tips and advice while traveling. I myself find them quite entertaining to read as some of the things i read was quite surprised by ( in a good way ).

Her filming blogs are based on her own experience within the fields as well as giving tips and advice to those who wish to break into the industry and also tips on gears and locations.
